Altar Servers

The role of an altar server is to assist Father during the celebration of Mass. Altar servers typically carry the processional cross and liturgical candles during the entrance and exit processions, symbolizing the presence of Christ in the worship space. They assist the priest by holding liturgical books, such as the Roman Missal, ensuring seamless transitions between prayers and readings. Altar servers also help prepare the altar, arranging sacred vessels like chalices and patens. During the Eucharistic celebration, they may ring bells at the consecration, signifying the pivotal moment of transubstantiation. Additionally, altar servers play a role in the distribution of communion, holding the communion plate or chalice. Through their dedicated service, Roman Catholic altar servers contribute to the reverence and orderliness of the Mass, fostering a sense of sacredness in the worship experience. Please call the office for more information on becoming an altar server.
